Ground Zero Software was started in March of 1993
by Jeff Hester of Huntsville, Al. Soon after starting the company, the
development of Bedlam (a black and white shoot'em up arcade game for
the Macintosh) began. Bedlam would be the first game released
by Ground Zero Software and the game was well received by the Mac community.
In September of 1996, Ground Zero Software incorporated.
The goal and purpose of our company has always been to provide the highest
quality applications for the Macintosh. We expanded that goal
to include developing top quality applications for Windows based
computers as well. We develop software ourselves and also publish others'
high quality software for both the Macintosh and Windows platforms.
Ground Zero Software, Inc. formed a new division,
Ground Zero Hosting, to focus on providing the very best web hosting
and web development services. We provide our clients the highest quality
Linux servers, extremely fast network connections, and unbeatable reliability,
all at very competitive prices. Our unmatched customer service experience
in software development and publishing flows directly into our web hosting
services division.
Currently, our software division is primarily entertainment-oriented,
featuring a fun and exciting game, Pop the Wheezil,
developed by Justin Van Eaton. We have also ported our two classic games
Temple Tantrum and
Bedlam 2 to Mac OS X. We will be the publisher
for Hybrid, a innovative music application being
developed by Max Arrow. We are currently developing Temple
Tantrum for Windows.
Why the name Ground Zero Software (and Hosting)?
Due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001 we feel we should provide
an answer to this question. What happened were unimaginable, cowardly,
and terrible acts of terrorism that inflicted our country on that day,
changing the U.S. and the world. Unfortunately, soon afterward the media
began referring to the site of the devastation at the World Trade Center
in New York City as "ground zero". Some have wondered if because of
the tragedy of 9/11 and the use of "ground zero" by the media
if we intend to change the name of our company. This is a very sensitive
question and one that we deliberated on for quite some time. We decided
to keep our company name for a multitude of reasons. The terriorists
robbed our country in unmeasureable magnitude by their cowardly deeds.
We deeply regretted that many lost their lives that day and feel much
sorrow for the families that were forever changed. We felt that if we
changed our name this would be one more thing stolen by the terrorists.
We originally chose the name "Ground Zero" in 1993
because we were starting our company with very little, from the ground
floor, so to speak. Most importantly, the goal of our company was and
has always been to make a large, positive impact in the world by providing
the very best products and services that could be offered by a company.
Hence the name "Ground Zero". Our mission has not changed, therefore,
we decided not to change the name of our company. We are always interested
in receiving feedback so please feel free to contact us.
